Jacob Cleary is a freelance screenwriter and filmmaker based in New York City.
Jacob’s films have been garnering praise and accolades since his high school days in Syracuse, NY, where he took home three awards including the Heisenberger Award for Overall Excellence at the 2017 Central New York High School Film Festival. Jacob’s script for a World War II thriller, The Girl with the Red Hair, was a Screenplay Finalist at the 10th Annual SUNY-Wide Film Festival and received a table read directed by A. Dean Bell. In the summer of 2019, Jacob interned under Mike de Seve at Baboon Animation, where he earned his first official writing credits as a story writer on the animated series Taffy.
Jacob has wide-ranging interests and aspires to tell his stories through any and all genres. For example, he has already made an abstract silent comedy (VFT, 2018), a documentary (Welcome to Flavortown, 2019), a horror-comedy (The Graveyard Shift, 2019), and even a coming-of-age biopic on the making of The Beatles’ White Album, Lennon-McCartney (2021).
In his free time, Jacob can usually be found writing both original spec scripts and unauthorized, pie-in-the-sky adaptations of favorite books, graphic novels, and true stories. He lives in New York City, where he is always writing or revising something new.
